New HVAC System for Your Roebuck Home: What the Installation Process Looks Like

Roebuck’s residential growth along Highway 221 and the Reidville Road corridor has brought a mix of new construction and established homes to the area. For homeowners in older Roebuck properties — particularly those built in the 1990s and early 2000s — HVAC replacement is becoming a priority as original systems age out.

Our installation technician Cody handles equipment projects throughout the Roebuck area. Here’s what the process looks like from start to finish.

Evaluating Your Roebuck Home

Before recommending any equipment, we evaluate your home’s specific needs. Roebuck homes vary significantly:

Single-story ranch homes (common along Highway 221): Typically one HVAC system with crawlspace ductwork. Installation is usually straightforward with good access.

Two-story homes (newer subdivisions): Often have two systems — one for upstairs, one for downstairs. The upstairs air handler is typically in the attic, which affects installation logistics and ductwork access.

Manufactured homes: Roebuck has a number of manufactured and modular homes with package units (self-contained heating and cooling systems that sit outside). Package unit replacements have specific requirements including pad leveling, proper drainage, and ductwork connections through the crawlspace or foundation.

On a recent Roebuck project, Cody’s team handled a complete system replacement including new ductwork for the downstairs system. The project included:

  • Removing the old equipment and ductwork
  • Installing a new high-efficiency system
  • Running new duct runs for improved airflow
  • Testing and commissioning the entire system

Equipment Selection for Roebuck’s Climate

Roebuck experiences the full range of Upstate weather — hot, humid summers and cold enough winters for heating to matter. The equipment choice depends on your home’s heating fuel and your priorities:

Heat pump systems work well for most Roebuck homes. They provide efficient heating down to about 30°F (which covers most Upstate winter days) and switch to auxiliary heat for the coldest nights. Federal tax credits make them especially attractive right now.

Gas furnace + AC combos are ideal for homes with existing natural gas service. Gas heat produces hotter air from the vents (130-140°F vs. 90-100°F from a heat pump), which some homeowners prefer.

Dual-fuel systems pair a heat pump with a gas furnace — using the heat pump for efficient heating most of the winter and switching to gas only during extreme cold. This is the most efficient option for year-round comfort.

What to Expect on Installation Day

Cody’s crew arrives early and typically completes a standard system replacement in one day. For projects involving ductwork modifications, expect 1.5-2 days.

Homeowner preparation:

  • Clear a path to the indoor equipment and outdoor unit location
  • If attic access is involved, ensure the attic opening is accessible
  • Expect some noise — equipment removal and installation involves cutting, brazing, and testing
  • Someone 18+ should be home during the installation

After installation:

  • Full system test with temperature and airflow verification
  • Homeowner walkthrough on thermostat operation, filter location, and basic maintenance
  • All permits filed and inspection scheduled
  • Warranty registration completed
